When the Power Goes Off
What to Do During an Outage
During a power outage remember these helpful tips
- Keep emergency supplies on hand.
- Don’t immediately open windows – keep the cool in as long as possible.
- If you are using a portable generator or barbecue grill, keep them outdoors – carbon monoxide will kill you.
- Keep blinds and draperies closed to keep the sun out of the house.
- Open refrigerator or freezer only when necessary.
- Flashlights with fresh batteries, candles and portable radios are essential during a power failure.
- Turn off all appliances including refrigerators, TV’s, VCR’s, microwaves, and computers.
- Restrict activity to stay cool.
- When the power returns wait a few minutes before turning on lights and appliances. Then do so one at a time.
