Schedule and Location
The 2026 Northfield Township Recycling program opened on April 1, 2026 during the normal Road District business hours of 7AM to 3PM, Monday – Friday, excluding holidays, at 237 Melvin Drive in Northbrook. The program will end for the year on October 31, 2026 at 3PM.
Residents please be ready to clearly show your Identification indicating you reside within Northfield Township. This service is for Northfield Township Residents only, all others will be turned away.
- Residents will be responsible for removing items from their own vehicles.
- Help is available for those who may need it.

- Art supplies
- Batteries (all types)
- Bikes & toys (usable condition)
- Cardboard (all boxes must be flattened – NO CARDBOARD TUBES ACCEPTED
- CDs and DVDs – NO VHS or CASSETTE TAPES OR FLOPPY DISCS
- Cell phones/pagers
- Clothing (usable condition)
- Computer software
- Computer hardware – NO COMPUTER MONITORS ACCEPTED
- Electronics
- Engine oil – NO VEGETABLE OR PEANUT OIL
- Eyeglasses
- Fluorescent tubes/bulbs – NO REGULAR INCANDESCENT BULBS ACCEPTED
- Hydraulic oil
- Ink/toner cartridges
- Metal
- Styrofoam (only clean, white Styrofoam blocks can be accepted – please do not bring cups, food trays, foam sheeting or egg cartons or peanuts)
- Tires – LIMIT OF 4 – NO TRACTOR, LARGE EQUIPMENT OR COMMERCIAL TIRES ACCEPTED
- Transmission fluid
- Flags
- Small electronics
- Therapeutic equipment (canes, crutches, standers, walkers, wheelchairs)
- Household paint (oil & latex, limited to 10 one gallon cans or 2 five gallon buckets)
In addition, our partnership with the Village of Northbrook provides an additional opportunity to recycle with an added drop-off location in Northbrook. The Village of Northbrook (www.northbrook.il.us) will be receiving at the garage behind the Village Hall on Cedar. Check the Village’s web site to verify the times, dates and list of accepted recyclables.
Recycling Program in Northbrook, Glenview & Northfield
The Northfield Township Road District recycling program gives residents a free, convenient place to drop off electronics, batteries, and many household items at the District’s award-winning recycling center in Northbrook.
When the Recycling Program Runs
The recycling program operates seasonally, from April 1 through October 31 — roughly seven months a year — at 237 Melvin Drive in Northbrook. Drop-off is free for Northfield Township residents in Northbrook, Glenview, and Northfield.
What You Can Drop Off
The recycling program accepts a range of materials, including consumer electronics and batteries, and points residents to specialized options for hazardous items and document shredding. Because accepted items can change, check current details before you visit.
