- Text and email alerts go only to people who signed up. Reply STOP to any text to leave.
- Our lookup tools are a guide. If the answer matters, call us and we will confirm it.
- Consent to messages is never required to receive any Road District service.
- Most of what we publish is a public record and you are free to reuse it.
1. Agreement to these terms
These terms govern your use of ntroad.com, operated by the Northfield Township Road District, a unit of local government in Cook County, Illinois. By using the site, signing up for alerts or submitting a form, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site — you can always reach us by telephone at 847.724.7055 or in person at 237 Melvin Drive, Northbrook.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we handle it, and forms part of these terms.
2. What this site is for
This site provides information about Road District services: road maintenance, snow and ice control, the recycling center, drainage work, and how to reach us. It exists to make dealing with us easier.
Nothing on this site is legal advice, engineering advice or a binding determination of any kind. Where our published information conflicts with an ordinance, a statute, an adopted policy or a decision of the Highway Commissioner, the official document controls.
3. Text and email alert program
We operate voluntary notification lists for residents. By signing up you agree to the following.
Enrollment
- You are added only when you check the consent box yourself. We do not add numbers or addresses obtained any other way.
- Text and email consent are separate. Checking one does not enroll you in the other.
- Snow alerts and recycling reminders are separate lists.
- Only enroll a telephone number you control. Do not sign up someone else without their permission.
- Consent to receive messages is not a condition of receiving any Road District service. Every service we provide is available to you whether or not you subscribe.
What we send and how often
- Snow and storm alerts: plow and salting status, road emergencies, closures and overnight parking restrictions. Frequency varies with the weather; expect messages mainly during storms.
- Recycling center reminders: season opening and closing dates, shredding and household hazardous waste event dates, and changes to accepted materials. Roughly six to ten messages a year.
Cost
We do not charge for alerts. Message and data rates may apply under your own mobile plan. Check with your carrier if you are unsure.
Stopping messages
- Reply STOP to any text message to stop all further texts. You will get one confirmation and nothing after that.
- Reply HELP to any text message for assistance, or call us.
- Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or call us.
- Opt-out requests are honored immediately and automatically. You never have to explain why.
Delivery
Message delivery depends on your mobile carrier, your device and network conditions, none of which we control. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Not all carriers or devices are supported. If you change your number, tell us — otherwise messages will go to whoever holds it next.
4. Alerts are not an emergency service
If there is a threat to life or property, call 911. Do not wait for an alert, and do not use this website or reply to a text message to report an emergency.
Our alert lists are a convenience. They are not a public safety warning system, they are not monitored around the clock, and they carry no guarantee of delivery, timing or accuracy. Messages can be delayed or fail to arrive for reasons outside our control, including power outages, network congestion and carrier problems — and those failures are most likely during exactly the severe weather when you would most want the message.
Never rely on an alert, or on the absence of one, as your only source of information about a hazard. Official emergency warnings come from the National Weather Service, Cook County emergency management and your local police and fire departments.
To report a road emergency such as an impassable road, a downed limb or flooding, call 847.471.7055 at any hour. For anything that endangers life, call 911 first.
5. Lookup tools and published information
This site includes tools that tell you which agency plows a given street and whether the recycling center accepts a given item. They are provided as a convenience and reflect our best current understanding.
Jurisdiction over a road can change, can be governed by an intergovernmental agreement, and sometimes splits mid-block or at a centerline. The list of materials we accept changes as our downstream recycling markets change. If the answer matters — before you drive somewhere, before you hire a contractor, or before a dispute — call us at 847.724.7055 and we will confirm it.
Service levels described on this site, including snow clearance goals, state what we aim for under normal conditions. They are operational objectives, not guarantees or contractual commitments, and severe weather, equipment failures and staffing can affect them.
6. Surveys and feedback
Survey participation is voluntary and every question is optional. When you send us survey answers, comments or suggestions, you allow us to use them to plan and improve services, and to publish anonymous aggregated results. We will not publish your name or contact information with your answers.
Please do not send confidential medical information, financial account details or anything you would not want in a government file. See our Privacy Policy regarding public records.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- Enroll a telephone number or email address that is not yours, or that you do not have permission to enroll
- Submit false or misleading information, or impersonate another person
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its accounts or its underlying systems
- Use automated tools to scrape, overload or disrupt the site
- Use the site to harass anyone or to transmit unlawful content
- Use our forms or contact addresses to send commercial solicitations
We may remove a subscriber, block access or refer a matter to law enforcement where warranted.
8. Availability and limitation of liability
This site is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every threat, or that its information is complete or current at every moment. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, including the alert program, at any time.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Northfield Township Road District, its officials, employees and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages arising out of your use of this site or the alert program, including damages arising from a message that was delayed, undelivered or inaccurate.
Nothing in these terms waives, limits or expands any immunity, defense or limitation available to the Road District or its employees under Illinois law, including the Local Governmental and Governmental Employees Tort Immunity Act (745 ILCS 10/). Nothing here creates a duty that does not otherwise exist, or a contract for services.
9. Public records and reuse
Most material we publish here is a public record of a unit of Illinois local government. You are welcome to reproduce and republish our informational content — snow procedures, jurisdiction lists, accepted recycling materials — for any purpose, commercial or not. We ask only that you not present altered information as if it came from us.
Some material on this site is not ours to license, including third-party logos, photographs and software. Those remain with their owners.
10. Other websites
We link to other agencies and organizations because the information helps residents. We do not control those sites, do not endorse everything on them, and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices. Their terms and privacy policies govern your use of them.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any action relating to this site or the alert program shall be brought in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
12. Accessibility
We work to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 Level AA. If any part of this site is difficult to use with assistive technology, tell us and we will fix it. We will provide any information on this site in an alternative format, including large print, on request and at no charge. Call 847.724.7055.
Everything offered through this website is also available by telephone and in person, including alert signup and survey participation. You never need to use a computer to deal with us.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. The “last updated” date at the top will change, and material changes affecting subscribers will be communicated directly. Continuing to use the site or remaining subscribed after a change means you accept the updated terms.
